CommentThis is one of a series of images I took on a second sighting of the relatively uncommon Blue-winged Parrots at Western Lagoon. They breed in both Tasmania and Victoria, and, in the case of the Victorian ones, are thought to move inland in winter. In the case of the Tasmania ones, some may overwinter in Victoria, which may explain my mid-winter sighting of these ones, part of a flock of some 30 birds. The three Blue-wings are seen alighting on coastal saltmarsh scrub. The early morning sun picks out their fanned wings and bright yellow bellies. Hopefully they won’t become so uncommon as to become as vulnerable as their Orange-bellied grass-parrot cousins.
