Competition Voting Results

The Our Iconic Parrots competition (which excluded lorikeets and cockatoos) was held in Feb-Mar 2015.

The Open category attracted 96 entries from 36 photographers.  The results of members' voting were: the winning entry was Ofer Levy's Golden-shouldered Parrot (image no longer available); second was Lindsay Cook's Regent Parrot (image ID 14881); and equal third were Belinda Rafton's Red-winged Parrot (image ID 14961), Georgina Steytler's Rock Parrot (image no longer available), and Ofer Levy's Golden-shouldered Parrot (image no  longer available).

The Entry level attracted 25 entries from 10 photographers.  The results of members' voting were: the winning entry was Christina Claxton's Pale-headed Rosella (image ID 14467); second was Mary Wheeler's Red-rumped Parrot (image ID 14717); third was James Robins' Australian Ringneck (image ID 14918); fourth was Keith Hindley's Orange-bellied Parrot (image ID 14481); and fifth was Mary Wheeler's Australian Ringneck (image ID 15124).

The Wild Bird Portraits (Open Category) competition was held from 15th October until the 15th November 2014, and attracted 171 entries from 59 photographers.  The requirement was for a portrait of a wild bird in a natural environment.

The Popular Vote winner was Ian Wilson's image of a Macaroni Penguin (Image ID 13699); second was Paul Jensen's Azure Kingfisher (Image ID 13516); third was Geoff Gates' Rufous Bristlebird (Image no longer avalable); fourth was Rodger Scott's Spotted Pardalote (Image no longer avalable); and fifth was Rodger Scott's Hardhead (Image ID 13381).

The Birds in My Backyard competition, for entry-level photographers, was held from 15th October until 15th November 2014; it attracted 26 entries from 12 photographers.

The Popular Vote winner was Wilson Lennard's image of a Swift Parrot (Image no longer available); second was James Robins' Superb Fairy-wren (Image ID 13727); third was Kristy-Ann Duffy's Blue-faced Honeyeater (Image ID 13511); fourth was Alan Johnson's Eastern Yellow Robin (Image no longer available); and fifth was Ross Chapman's Sulphur-crested Cockatoo (Image ID 13660).

The Small in the Landscape competition was designed to provide an opportuniy to capture images of a single bird, or a flock of birds, in their natural or man-made environment.  It was held in July-September 2014, and attracted 258 entries from 79 photographers.  The winning entry was David Seymour's image of a Black Currawong (image ID 11891) with 63 points; second was Geoff Gates' Blue-winged Parrots (image ID 12545 - no longer available) with 55 points: third and fourth were Georgina Steytler's Wedge-tailed Eagle (image ID 12549) with 34 points and White-necked Heron (image ID 12548) with 33 points; and fifth was Sandy Carroll's Sarus Cranes (image ID 11930) with 30 points.

The Two of a Kind competition, for images showing two Australian birds of the same species, was open for entries during April-May 2014; it attracted 231 entries from 60 photographers.  The winning entry was Brian O'Leary's image of a pair of Lovely Fairy-wrens (Image ID 11572) with 50 points; second was Diane Clare's Yellow-billed Spoonbills (Image ID 11170) with 41 points, and a close third was Lindsay Cooke's Wedge-tailed Eagles (Image ID 11300 - no longer available) with 40 points.
