BLP Members - September 2020

This (large - 54 pages) document contains the responses of all 350 members who participated in our 2020 members survey.  It includes all entries submitted in "Other" fields of survey questions.  These results are anonymous, and this document is member-only access.  We plan to publish a summary of these results when our initial analysis is completed.

BirdLife Photography members played a pivotal role in a recent study, accepted for publication in the journal Biological Conservation, looking at developing a science-based code of practice for bird photography, by participating in a survey of photographer behaviour, motivation and attitudes to bird photography, which enabled the first analysis which described these attributes among bird photographers. The study also conducted standardised approaches to birds in Australia and China and measured their response to different experiments (“approaches”) which mimicked some stereotyped photographer behaviour.

This article presents a summary of the major findings of our 2018 survey, with results grouped for active and non-active members. A number of questions in the survey allowed multiple responses (e.g.reason for joining BLP), generally with an option to provide an “Other” response; this summary does not include every such reply, it covers the main responses received.
