Image Processing

These articles relate mainly to processing of image files after they have been transferred from the camera to a computer.  They include use of computer software such as raw convertors and image processing software such as Digital Photo Professional (DPP), Photoshop/Photoshop Elements (PS/PSE) and Lightroom (LR), and the steps recommended to get the most out of your photographs through image processing and development.

    Note: this article relates to software sharpening which concerns increasing edge definition in photographs. This is different from the sharpness of the lens itself - for a more detailed technical discussion on lens sharpness refer to Ian Wilson’s article “Sharpness Explained”.

    A detailed set of step by step instructions describing Ian’s workflow in processing raw images, using Canon’s Digital Photo Professional software as the basic raw processor, and Photoshop Elements (specifically, version 14) to do final noise reduction and sharpening, other fine tuning, and downsizing for the web. This is detailed and technical, and likely to be challenging for beginners but a must-read for anyone interested in making the most of Canon’s software.
