These articles present the results of member voting in previous competitions.  They include details of the competition theme and dates.

 

"Creating Artistic Images" - Member Voting Results

The Creating Artistic Images competition was held in June-August 2022.  For this competition, anything goes as long as you meet the image size requirements.  Images can be colour or monochrome.  The comments must explain how you took or created the image and what you were trying to achieve with your image.

The results of member voting for the top five images in each category are listed here.  The Winner is the image which received the most votes; and we also show the next four (or more in case of a tie) highest placed images, rating them as Highly Commended if they received at least 90% of the votes for the winning image, and Commended for scores less than that.

"Migrants" Competition - Member Voting Results

The Migrants competition was held in April-May 2022.  For this competition, migrants are bird species that visit Australia from overseas on an annual basis as part of their lifecycle.  It does not include vagrants.  It also includes Australian species that move interstate or between the far north and the south of Western Australia to breed.  As an indication, it includes some species of parrots, cuckoos, martins, swallows, honeyeaters, gerygones, flycatchers, fantails, and the Rainbow Bee-eater.  To clarify which species will be accepted please refer to the Australian Bird Guide (ABG).  If the ABG says a species is migratory or partially migratory it will be accepted; if migration is not mentioned under the species it will not be accepted, with the exception of the Regent Parrot.  Both the Superb Parrot and the Regent Parrot that breed along the Murray River will be accepted as interstate migrants.

"Best of 2021" Competition - Member Voting Results

The Best of 2021 was held in January-March 2022, and ensured this year's competitions made a great start.  Overall this competition received the highest number of entries (397) ever recorded in our competitions, with both Entry Level and Intermediate Level leading the way with record numbers of entries.

"Wrens" Competition - Member Voting Results

The Wrens competition was held in September-October 2021.  This competition included any species with “wren” as part of its common name (more than 30 species around Australia).  It includes Emu-wrens, Fairy-wrens, Grasswrens, Fernwren, Fieldwrens, Heathwrens and Scrubwrens.

The results of member voting for the top five images in each category are listed here.  This competition received good support from our members, with 253 images entered across the 3 competition levels by 79 photographers.  The Winner is the image which received the most votes; and we also show the next four highest placed images, rating them as Highly Commended if they received at least 90% of the votes for the winning image, and Commended for scores less than that.

"Birds In Their Habitat" Competition - Member Voting Results

The Birds in their Habitat (excluding waterbirds) competition was hel in June-August 2021.  The challenge was to photograph the bird in its habitat.  The bird needs to be clearly identifiable, as does the habitat in which it lives.  For example, what is the habitat, why is it important, and is it a typical or unusual location for the species.  No birds on sticks with clear backgrounds required here.  Examples are fruit-doves in rainforest trees, finches feeding on grass seeds, chats in heath, kingfishers by streams, honeyeaters on flowering shrubs or trees, emus in woodland, Glossy Black Cockatoos in casuarina trees, etc.  Waterbirds which are excluded are those listed in the Australian Bird Guide in the categories of Marine and Coastal Birds, and Freshwater Birds.
