These articles present the results of member voting in previous competitions.  They include details of the competition theme and dates.

 

"Parrots and Lorikeets" Competition - Member Voting Results

The Parrots and Lorikeets competition was held in September-November 2023.  Members should enjoy capturing this colourful group, which includes 40 species (with a number of sub-species).  It does not include Cockatoos, Corellas or Cockatiels.

The member voting results for the top five images in each category are listed here.  This competition received good support from our members, with 251 images entered across the 3 competition levels by 84 photographers.  The Winner is the image which received the most votes; and we also show the next four highest placed images, rating them as Highly Commended if they received at least 90% of the votes for the winning image, and Commended for scores less than that.

"Mellow Yellow" Competition - Member Voting Results

The Mellow Yellow competition was held in July-August 2023.  The subject must have some yellow or gold in its plumage (feathers) – yellow legs, feet, bills, eyes and other appendages do not qualify. This colour must be visible in the image.  As to whether it meets the colour requirement, you should be informed by the bird’s description in the Australian Bird Guide.  At least 100 species qualify (as a starting point think pardalotes, gerygones, thornbills, honeyeaters, parrots, whistlers, finches and bowerbirds). 

The results of member voting for the top five images in each category are listed here.  This competition received good support from our members, with 322 images entered across the 3 competition levels by 102 photographers.  The Winner is the image which received the most votes; and we also show the next four highest placed images, rating them as Highly Commended if they received at least 90% of the votes for the winning image, and Commended for scores less than that.

"More Than a Pair" Competition - Member Voting Results

The More Than a Pair competition was held in April-May 2023.  There must be more than 2 birds in the image.  They can be the same species or multiple species.  The challenge here is focus.  It can be difficult to get multiple birds in focus - but it can look great.  Do they all need to be in focus?  What story are you trying to tell?

The results of member voting for the top five images in each category are listed here.  This competition received good support from our members, with 303 images entered across the 3 competition levels by 99 photographers.  The Winner is the image which received the most votes; and we also show the next four highest placed images, rating them as Highly Commended if they received at least 90% of the votes for the winning image, and Commended for scores less than that.

This category attracted 102 entries, from 32 photographers. 41 members voted, with the following result:

The Best of 2022 competition was held in February-March 2023.  This competition received good support from our members, with 396 images entered across the 3 competition levels by 112 photographers.

"Raptors, Owls, Frogmouths and Nightjars" Competition - Member Voting Results

The Raptors, Owls, Frogmouths and Nightjars competition was held in September-October 2022.  These groups include 52 species.  Only photographs taken during the day will be accepted.
