CommentI was sitting inside at my computer with my camera next to me as I was about to clear a card. I had a sliding external door wide open to let the sunlight stream in – when clunk! This Laughing Kookaburra perched on the decking rail just outside the door. Given that juveniles have all black beaks and adult females have less blue colorations than adult males I would suggest that this is a young adult female as there is little blue on the wings and the lower mandible is creamy but without too many ‘battle scars’ (any advice from others re classification would be welcome). If she was 2 metres closer, she would have been right inside with me. I simply picked up my camera and swivelled my chair 90 degrees and took a few shots. I am guessing that other people nearby might be feeding her. If she thought there might be a feed here, she would have been sorely disappointed.
