CommentA resubmission to replace an earlier post, with more open cropping and improved processing. I almost binned this one, as fine detail suffers from the substantial crop of the original (close approach was difficult in this open area). Correction of red channel clipping in the vent feathers which afflicted the previous version, required exporting two separately processed 16-bit tiffs from DPP4 and combining them with layer masking in Photoshop. A couple of grass seeds adhering to the head were cloned out.
Having just turned up in their seasonal migration, these birds were very intent on feeding. By crouching low with the camera it was possible to encourage this one to approach reasonably closely, but with such a small subject I could have done with some extra focal length.
