CommentThree species of boobies nest on Christmas island. The Abbott's is the largest and nests only on Christmas Island at the tops of the largest trees in the hinterland. It is not commonly sighted flying along the fringes of the island and hunts for fish from a greater height than the other species. Their unusual head is due to eye sockets that are directed forward and downwards. The males have a blue tinge to their beaks compared to this female with a pinkish bill
