CommentA high river bank on the western shore of the Derwent provided a view onto an isolated perch which was being used by Swallows in between feeding flights up and down the river edge. The birds paused only briefly and I had to be quick to catch a pose. Quiet conditions meant the bird noticed the rapid shutter sound and glanced towards the camera, briefly creating that elusive subject connection. Dull overcast required a high ISO, but on the plus side eliminated harsh shadows and produced an even background from the distant calm river surface.

EF 400 f/4 DO IS II + 1.4x TC III, at 560mm
Manual exposure, 1/1250 sec, f/7.1, ISO 3200, handheld, eye-detection AF
Lightroom Classic for RAW conversion and initial adjustments, then Photoshop for noise reduction with Neat Image and final adjustments. Final sharpening using Smart Sharpen was applied after size reduction to web submission dimensions.
