CommentThe depicted birds are of the Western Australian subspecies, Neophema elegans carteri. On this occasion, at the normal corner of my haunt for this species, 3 Elegant Parrots of the Western Australian subspecies carteri came out from among the shrub in the gully behind me, alighted in front of me and began to feed on the ground working themselves up a slight slope to their favourite grass paddock. The surprised and alert look of the erect bird is a result of it hearing the shutter start up. Still, the pair stayed quietly feeding for some time, but in my view the first image as seen here was the better one due to the erect and enchanting pose of the parrot. Time of Capture 08:30.
EquipmentNikon D850 – DX Mode using 1/800s at F4; ISO-800 with Nikkor AF-S 500mm f4G ED VR lens & Camera rig support: Gitzo GT3543XLS Tripod, Dietmar Nill gimbal tripod head. Technique: Standing under cover in shrub with camera rig at the ready, waiting for something interesting to come along.
Post Production: Nikon ViewNX-i for Tif conversion; Adobe Photoshop Camera Raw/CC 2021 for resizing, cropping, selective and general post-processing inclusive of cloning away disturbing objects and removing slight halos; Topaz Pro plug-in DeNoise for mild blanket sharpening and moderate noise control. ‘Australian Bird Guide 2019’ for subspecies’ distribution, data and colour checks.
