CommentThis is an immature bird, one of a pair seen on the side of the Kuranda Road and photographed from the car. We did not see an adult with them. The bird is developing the long wattles of the adult, with just a hint of red at the end. The neck is still feathery. HANZAB says that the balding of the neck occurs around 10 months, so it is presumably in its first year. It was considerably smaller than an adult bird, though much larger than a chick.
