| Comment | This 'plain-tail' is a young male hatched in 2014 and therefore almost exactly 2 years old. The strong rufous throat patch is common in males of this age but is not a reliable indicator of sex. The bird was banded at the time of fledging and his sex was determined from a blood sample otherwise it would be impossible to be sure of his gender based on appearance. I found him a few hundred metres from where he hatched and on the edge of the territory of the great 'Pretender', who is probably his father.
