CommentYellow-orange beak gives this one away as a male even though he doesn't have his red front yet. There has been a lot of these around my area lately. It's feeding on a climbing saltbush (Einadia nutans) in my front garden. The leaves are popular with both king parrots and crimson rosellas. I'd recommend this plant, not just because the birds like it, but also because it's very tough and will grow in horrid, dry spots once established.
EquipmentCanon 700D with 100-400mm handheld at 320mm
1/250 sec, f8, ISO 800.
Initially processed in Canon DPP 4 to crop, adjust exposure and lighting and perform noise reduction on bird. A 16 bit TIFF file was created from the RAW DPP image and finished in PSE (Adobe Photoshop Elements v9) where the background was noise reduced and the main subject sharpened.
