CommentStriated Pardalotes creates holes in banks in order to nest, this has made them easy prey for Cats, which wait near the hole until the Parent bird enters, then close on the hole, taking the bird as it attempts to leave. We set up a 100mm Plastic Downpipe, horizontally on wires near the verandah, with sand in the bottom of the pipe. They bred happily til Green Frogs invaded. Pardalotes vary the diet to the chicks, initially small insects, then as the chicks grow, the diet changes to Scales which is the normal adult diet. This parent is feeding new born chicks.
