CommentPerhaps not the best of images, but as it's somewhat unusual to encounter the Pacific Golden Plover on the dried-out mudflats of freshwater lakes in Perth, I submit this image just the same, even if just for the record. Normally these birds are seen around the estuaries, where they forage in harmony with the tides. It was difficult to make this bird stand out and separate it from the hazy background, caused by rising heat shimmer from the drying out mud of Thomson’s Lake. In 2020, already by mid December, this Ramsar Convention lake had hardly any water left in it, but had turned into a smelly cake of slippery mud.

Exposure Mode: MANUAL 1/2000 sec at f8; ISO-250. Metering Mode: Center-Weighted; Focus Mode: AF-S & AF Area Mode: Single. VR: Off
Nikon ViewNX-i for viewing and selecting files; Adobe Photoshop Camera Raw/CC 2020 for resizing and cropping to 187% followed by conversion to Tif, selective sharpening and general post-processing inclusive of removal of slight halos; Topaz Pro plug-in DeNoise was used for very mild blanket sharpening and moderate noise control. ‘Australian Bird Guide 2019’ for species distribution confirmation, supplementary data and colour checks
