CommentThis migratory species look rather scruffy when in molt, this bird would be about 75% complete. The gender is not known in this instance but females generally have dull black or grayer black plumage. I find these birds also have unusual wing molts with the outermost secondaries being replaced first followed by the innermost primaries. The right hand wing of this bird shows the two outer secondaries and four outer primaries (one missing) yet to be molted.
