CommentWe observed Emus at close range as they came to drink at a puddle in a 4 WD track. They were extremely wary and would either sit or stand, lifting the head after each gulp. According to HANZAB, they take up to 70 mouthfuls in one session, sometimes leaving for short breaks between drinking bouts. They usually drink once a day in winter and twice a day in summer.
EquipmentCanon 1Dx II + 600 mm f/4 III + 1.4x III extender, hand-held from a make-shift hide in a bush. Manual, partial metering, AI Servo spot AF, f/7.1, 1/1600 sec, ISO 640. Processed using DPP4 and PSE14 with Neat Image plug-in.
