CommentThis is an adult male, ssp victoriae. I have tried to show a close view of the spectacular tail feathers. The bird is about 14 years of age and acquired a new set of tail feathers in November-December ready for the 2019 breeding season. Because the feathers are fresh they are in excellent condition with little wear or damage. The two prominent up-turned retrices are the median feathers (sometimes called wires) and there are six pairs of long filamentous feathers called filamentaries. The lyrates are the two major retrices with the black tips and coarse comb-like pattern.
EquipmentCanon 5Ds + 400 mm f/4 DO II + 600EX-RT flash.
Manual, partial metering, AI Servo spot AF, f/8, 1/200 sec, ISO 800, ETTL flash with 0 exposure compensation.
Processed using DPP4 and PSE14 with Neat Image plug-in.
