| Comment | I sighted this Little Eagle on South Rd, WTP, Werribee. At first it was in flight, making an apparently unsuccessful dive down for some prey, then it circled around to land on this fence post, with the You Yangs Range in the distance. Rabbits are one of its most preferred prey and are certainly in plentiful supply at Werribee. Although this one is hunting on the plains, eagles and mountains seem to have an affinity with each other, no doubt associated with the thermals that eagles love to ride. As HANZAB notes, Little Eagles “soar up to 500 metres above ground or canopy of trees, gaining lift from thermals and updraughts” (https://hanzab.birdlife.org.au/species/little-eagle/). | ||||||||||||||||||
