| Comment | I watched this bird perform the action shown here multiple times. It had picked up a mollusc shell, flew up over a rocky outcrop and dropped it, presumably with the aim of cracking open the shell and eating the organism. At one point, it missed and dropped the mollusc into the water. The bird proceeded post haste to find another one and repeat the processing of flying up with it and dropping it on a rocky area repeatedly. It didn't seem to have any luck getting a feed though. I notice another member has photographed the same behaviour by a Pacific Gull in Victoria. | ||||||||||||||||||
| Equipment | Canon R5 with RF 100-500mm, handheld at 500mm 1/4000 sec, f/7.1, ISO 500. Initially processed in Canon DPP 4 to crop, adjust exposure and lighting. All noise reduction turned off in DPP. A 16 bit TIFF file was created from the RAW DPP image and finished in PSE (Adobe Photoshop Elements) where noise reduction was applied globally along with adjustments made as appropriate to lighting, then it was sharpened after resizing for upload.
