CommentIs there anything a male Musk Duck won’t do to attract the attention of a female partner? Males are renowned for their spectacular courting displays involving ballooning out their throat lobes, creating coronas with their tail feathers, engaging in much splashing of water, uttering loud plonking sounds, and emitting their eponymous musk perfume. Here a male Musk Duck, throat lobe very visible, seems to have found another way of attracting female attention. He is carrying round a large white feather, certainly not one of his own, presumably with the view to impressing a female Muskie swimming nearby. He circled around the female several times to display the feather. The female, however, seemed unimpressed and the male eventually let the feather go. No feather for his cap today.
