CommentI took this photo on my recent trip in Gold Coast for BLPC. The light condition was pretty challenging. The bird appeared in the deep messy branches. I left with no choice to compose or even select the better background. The post processing therefore has become a hard work to save my favourite bird. Without telling you what I have done to it, can anyone please let me know if this image is over edited and unacceptable? Thank you.

Glenn Pure2022-05-31 09:11:22I wouldn't have said it's over-edited. The most obvious thing that struck me about this is that the bird is quite light in tone but not by a lot. In that regard it might look a little unnatural to some. If I wanted to get picky, I'd say some of the bird's plumage looks a little over-sharpened and a little noise is apparent but not badly so. As to whether it's 'acceptable'? If that refers to whether it would be OK for a BLP gallery, I think it is fine. As to aesthetic acceptability, that is very much subjective and will vary from person to person. My own view is that I'd probably compose it differently. Things I would try (dependent on what is in the rest of the frame) is to make the bird a little smaller in the frame and not have it right against the left edge of the frame. I hope that is what you are seeking.
Amy Rakkusol2022-05-31 13:46:47Much appreciated your constructive critique, Glenn. The shot out of the camera was awful and unusable. I just tried try to rescue my little bird in the dark and be able to see her face by playing it in the post processing. Thank you again for your time.
Con Boekel2022-06-29 16:21:35Hi Amy
Nice pic, IMO.
My only additional comment is the light patch between the bird and the branch. Our eyes tend to be attracted to the brightest light. I would select that patch and reduce the light in it until it match the same patch just below the branch.
kind regards
Con
