I am guessing these are Australian Pipits rather than Bushlarks or Skylarks. They were flying around together on a road with adjoining grassland, Werribee. I am thinking Pipits because of the dark upper bill mandible compared to light under mandible but not all features of Pipits seem to be there. Hoping someone can assist.
Thanks,
Michael

Looks like a Bushlark to me. The bill  of a Pipit is longer and narrower.

Many thanks for getting back so rapidly on this, Geoffrey. I was mainly going on the bill colourings, but now checking another guide, the Pizzey & Knight one, I see their illustrations do show the Horsfield's Bushlark as having a darker upper bill.
Very hard to distinguish between Pipits and Larks but going on the length of the bill, it does look like a Bushlark.
Regards,
Michael
