By which I don't mean I am shooting pictures of flat fish
Hello everyone,
I'm Jonathan, a new member who has just been really excited and inspired by tonights Zoom presentation.
I have been taking pictures on and off most of my life but only recently started trying to capture birds and I feel like I'm struggling to get some even semi decent shots to put up for critique. I think I'm getting better but still get overwhelmed by trying to just get the bird somewhere in the frame let alone think about exposure, background, light, distractions and so on. It's that learning something new and challenging phase that slowly passes as information and technique start to gel.
If there are any other photographers based around South East Qld (Brisbane bayside for me) who wouldn't mind some irritating kid (whose nearly 60) coming along and asking tons of dumb questions, I would love to meet some of you, I think it would be even more fun to have some companions to bounce off sometimes
Thanks for all the stunning images to pour over, I have spent quite some time figuring out what it is that I like in them
Cheers
Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,

Thanks for posting here and for taking the time to join the presentation last evening.

I understand you contacted one of the presenters, and I just checked with him, and he has emailed you back.

If you use Facebook, you might like to join our members only group, which would be a good opportunity to start a network with other members.

I also recommend you take a look at some of our articles on this page .

To give you something practical to take away, where possible I try go out with a plan of what I want to photograph. Get to know the birds that frequent your local areas. Think about where the sun would be at certain times of day, what is in the foreground and background, and envisage how you might set up to get a photo. Doing this in the backyard is also an option.

Maybe make your initial goal to put up something in the critique gallery.

Best regards,
Craig

Hi Craig,

I am working towards some images for the critique gallery and I'll have to take the plunge soon.

Thanks also for the planning advice. I like that idea.

Cheers
Jonathan
