CommentThis pair of Black-shouldered Kites were observed circling around above the waters of one of the Western Lagoon ponds early in the morning. It is possible that the one on the right is a female with its slightly larger apparent size. They had just disturbed a flock of some 20 to 30 Blue-winged Parrots, who lost no time in taking off en masse to find a safer place to forage. The pair are seen against the You Yangs range in the distance. The one on the right displays the Black-shouldered Kite’s beautiful fanned grey and white wings and tail as seen from above.
