CommentThis handsomely attired young Black-shoulder Kite looks as if butter wouldn’t melt in its mouth. But the blood on its talons tells a different story. No doubt he or she is taking a little after-breakfast rest in the wake of an early morning hunt and capture of a rodent or rabbit. Its brown eyes and rusty breast streaks suggests it is a juvenile. Black-shouldered Kites’ favourite prey of mice is certainly not in short supply at the moment but farmers and domestic households using deadly poisons to control mice are forgetting that they are also killing these beautiful kites, some of their best year-round allies in managing mice outbreaks.
