CommentThe Grey Fantail depicted here is ssp. preissi of south-western Western Australia.
The Grey Fantail proved more difficult for me to get a good image of, than one would have imagined, as it’s very common in the Perth and Peel Regions, my usual stomping grounds. Further, it’s generally unafraid of people here, quite inquisitive and often venture up to me so close that I am unable to focus. The problems are that it is erratic and unpredictable in movements, quite flighty when hunting, and it only sits still for a fraction of a second. It just doesn’t know the meaning of ‘smoko’, and also, when hunting around, tail flicking and fanning, it likes to do so among shrubs and other vegetation. However, rewards often come to the persistent and patient photographer, and I think with this image I have finally had success; in any case, I am happy with the capture myself. Time of capture: 09:36.
