CommentThe Yellow-tufted HE found in the Bendigo area is ssp meltoni. Yellow-tufted HE fledge in juvenile plumage and undergo a moult to adult-like first immature non-breeding within 2 months of hatching. First immature has a yellow base to the lower mandible and yellow gape as in this individual. The gape becomes black by 250 days of age. The background in this image is the out of focus surface of the dam on an overcast morning.
EquipmentCanon R5 + 600 mm f/4 III + 2x III extender, hand-held.
Manual, spot metering, eye AF, f/10, 1/640 sec, ISO 1600.
Processed using DPP4 and PSE14 with Neat Image plug-in.
