CommentThis image already began with an incredibly contrasting dark background with the bird beautifully lit up. The late afternoon sun was only casting light in a very thin band, and I just got lucky the bird decided to turn when it did. I chose to darken the background out until there were no recognisable features, as the result leaves all the focus on the bird.

All editing was done in darktable: Denoising, lighting adjustments (highlights, midtones and shadows), local contrast and colour adjustments.
