CommentThe Elegant Parrot (♀ ssp. carteri of WA depicted) is not one I notice or see all that often. However, I know of a woodland population of these little charmers at the base of Darling Scarp, where from they fly out to feed in adjacent grassland paddocks in the mornings this time of the year. Arriving just after dawn on a cold and hazy morning, I set myself up in a small hollow of the ground, sitting on a chair among shrubs with the sun over my left shoulder and with a 140¤ view of a bare patch of ground with soft, germinating herbs and grasses. This put me at just about eye level with any bird that came in to forage on the ground. Then I covered up completely in my small camouflage net and prepared myself for a period of waiting with a cup of coffee. The rest, as they say, is history! Time of capture 09:01.
