CommentAn immature (L) and adult (R) bird of the nominate race fuliginosus (fuligo=soot) of southern Australia. The adult has a bright orange/red iris and eye-ring. The younger bird has a paler eye-ring, brown iris and paler legs. The bill has a dusky grey tip and overall the plumage is slightly more brownish than on the adult. The birds were resting on rocks on the tide-line allowing an uncluttered water background.
EquipmentCanon EOS 90D + 400mm f/4 DO + 1.4 extender, camera resting on a rock. Manual, spot metering, f/7.1, 1/ 500 sec, ISO 1000. Processed with DPP4 & Photoshop Elements 15 with Neat Image 8.3.
