CommentAn elusive and very shy Australian Spotted Crake in a rare moment of venturing out into the open on a saline pool near the Little River Bird Hide at Werribee Treatment Plant. Its blue grey breast and brown spotted plumage are highlighted in both bird and reflection. It is surrounded by swarms of water skaters but the Crake’s attention seems more on what is below the surface than on top. A tasty invertebrate or crustacean may be more to its liking than the leggy frenetic water skaters dancing around it.
