CommentYellow-rumped Thornbill. Acanthiza chrysorrhoa chrysorrhoa (WA nominate ssp.). Image specific (_BOZ3041 + 02.14.21BiL): I encountered a small flock of these Western Australian Yellow-billed Thornbills (nominate ssp. Acanthiza chrysorrhoa chrysorrhoa) foraging by the boardwalk at the shores of Herdsman Lake, a large lake only 6 km from Perth’s CBD. The lake holds water year-round and so is a heaven for many different species of birds. Upon my approach, the birds flew up into the swamp and jittered about in an open, dead shrub while keeping a close eye on me. These thornbills usually forage on the ground, so this behaviour rendered me the somewhat unusual opportunity of capturing the species at eye level from the boardwalk, and I made the best out of the event that I was able to, being that the bird was in shade and heavily backlit.
