CommentSometimes the whole can be greater than the parts. This White-Plumed Honeyeater flying through a forest glade in the Chiltern Valley Dam No2 part of the Chiltern National Park gives an inexpressible sense of a bird at home in its own universe. Sometimes poets touch on this. As the French poet, Paul Eluard writes: “A bird flies away,/It discards the clouds like a useless veil,/It has never feared the light/Enclosed in its flight,/It has never owned a shadow”. What would have been lost if I had just honed in on the bird alone with a high powered telephoto lens and missed how it fitted into the whole forest scene?
