CommentEarly morning, high cloud, deep in the forest. Spotted this fellow and I seized upon the opportunity to attempt a white-bird shot. For the first time I changed my white balance setting from auto (AWB) to AWBW to understand the difference and I was mostly happy with the outcome. I was shooting into the light but somehow the overhanging branches and filtered light looked pleasant on the eye. In post LR edit I reduced highlights slightly to ensure it wasn't blowing out. Slight selective sharpen added and slight overall noise reduction, increased some texture while reducing clarity to maintain softness. I feel it is lacking a little dynamics. I cropped in from the left although I wanted to keep more of the tree. I had a battle with this bird who continuously kept hiding his face lifting a branch each time I had a clear shot, I jostled around the tree until I could see his face knowing I would need to adjust for composition, or miss the shot. I did laugh when it was over. Used a higher ISO to get speed as he was moving around quite a lot whereas I feel a slower speed lower ISO may have produced a nicer photo. I feel AWBW setting is better for white birds although direct sunlight may be different. I welcome any comments that will help me to improve my understanding in dealing with the subtleties of white.
