CommentAn adult returning to the colony after feeding at sea. It was a long journey up a mountain side through deep snow and ice. This day there was the added eerie light as snow fell on the South Shetlands. Abundant around the Antarctic Peninsula and recorded as a vagrant to Australia.
EquipmentD500 body + AF-S Nikkor 180-400mm f4 TC1.4 FL ED VR at 180mm; 1/2500s at f / 7.1; ISO D500 body + AF-S Nikkor 180-400mm f4 TC1.4 FL ED VR at 180mm; 1/2500s at f / 7.1; ISO 800; handheld. Processed with Adobe Lightroom CC; profile Adobe Vivid; minor adjustments to WB Daylight 5,500, Exposure +0.15, Contrast +12, Highlights -31, Shadows +5, Whites +42, Blacks -7, Clarity +39, Dehaze +10 and Vibrance +15. Tone Curve – Highlights -32, Darks +15. Sharpening 45. Noise reduction not required, rarely necessary with the D500 sensor.
