CommentTwo subspecies of the Willie Wagtail are recognized in mainland Australia: The southern, nominate one Rhipidura leucophrys leucophrys depicted here and a northern one R. l. picata, which is found in the northernmost third across the mainland. This bird is from south-western Western Australia, and it was perched in a Banksia, where from it would drop to the ground for morsels of prey, or occasionally it would launch hectic aerial sorties, trying to hunt down insects mid-air. Camera rig support: Velbon Neo Carmagne Carbon Tripod with Manfrotto Ball Head Art 498RC2.
Technique: Standing, using tripod.
Camera settings: Exposure Program/Shooting Mode: ‘Manual’; shutter speed 1/320s, f5.6 & ISO-640. Metering Mode: ‘CenterWeightedAverage’; Focus Mode: ‘C-AF and Drive: ‘Sequential shooting (Silent-1frame)’. Image Stabilizer on (S-SIS AUTO) & In-Camera-Sharpness +2.
