CommentTwo subspecies of the Willie Wagtail are recognized in mainland Australia: The southern, nominate one Rhipidura leucophrys leucophrys depicted here and a northern one R. l. picata, which is found in the northernmost third across the mainland. This bird is from south-western Western Australia, and it was perched in a Banksia, where from it would drop to the ground for morsels of prey, or occasionally it would launch hectic aerial sorties, trying to hunt down insects mid-air.
