CommentThis family of three Pied Stilts was found exploring the saline pool close to the Little River Bird Hide. As they sighted me, they took off, en famille, a parent with the full pied plumage, and two juveniles with their brown tinged caps and scalloped wings. The parent was obviously a little annoyed at being disturbed, with much yelping along the way. However, much to my relief, they simply did a circle and came back to the pool a little further away on the other side of the pool. They are as graceful in flight as in wading in the water but, like their Masked Lapwing cousins, not to be intruded upon when they have their youngsters in tow.
