CommentOn this occasion I had come to suburban Herdsman Lake in order to photograph a rare pratincole that was rumoured to hang around there. Meanwhile, other photo opportunities abounded and among many other captures of the day, I have picked out this Straw-necked Ibis, which was foraging in drying-out swampland at the edge of the lake. The image clearly shows how deep into the mud this species of ibis may probe with its bill. Time of capture 08:09.
