CommentAn unfamiliar bird caught my eye as I was opening the gate to reach the T-Section Lagoon bird hide. It was perched in a tree on the Point Wilson Road, and then, as I approached, it moved to a fence a short distance away. It was a Black-faced Cuckoo-shrike, the first I had seen. It does not have the full all-black face of an adult but appears to be an immature bird with less of a black facial mask, possibly over a year old. As with adults, it has a beautiful long tail, edged black in the outer wings, very evident in the photo. A younger juvenile bird would most likely have its parents around but this bird seemed to be on its own, consistent with it being an immature bird, beginning to find its own way in the world.
