CommentI did many years ago encounter Cape Barren Geese on Kangaroo Island, where apparently they have been introduced. They breed on islands off our Southern Australian coast, with many migrating across to the grasslands and pastures on the mainland during the summer. This, however, was my first unexpected encounter of them at Werribee Treatment Plant, where I found them foraging on grasses next to the ponds. Here they are seen taking off across one of the ponds, displaying their beautiful blue-grey plumage in upswept wings. The characteristic rows of dark spots on their upper wings and shoulders are seen in the photo.
