CommentAfter a lengthy closure to birdwatchers during Melbourne’s successive Covid-19 lockdowns, the Werribee Treatment Plant has now reopened, and it was a pleasure to visit there again, and rediscover its extraordinary richness of birdlife ranging from migratory shorebirds from Siberia, to wetland birds common and uncommon, and to larger raptors always circling overhead. But overlooked in my previous visits were some much smaller birds that also find there homes here, not least this White-Browed Scrub Wren spotted surveying its densely thicketed domain near the banks of the Little River, and no doubt ready to make a dive into the protective scrub at the first sight of a ravenous raptor. Its dark face mask with the white brow above and white moustache below, and brown upper parts, are very evident.
