CommentIt is not often that I have at all seen this little, rather rotund plover in the Perth Region, as rain patterns dictate its presence and breeding period more than anything else; for a plover, it’s more dependant on freshwater wetlands than any other species of plover, and it’s not that fond of saline and tidal environments. This one year, obviously the conditions were just right at Alcoa Wellard Wetlands, and a small number of these birds settled down to breed here. When I found them, the chicks would not yet have hatched, and I never saw any, but over a couple of trips down there, I achieved a number of captures of the species feeding in the by now quickly drying out wetlands, which that year had been subjected to winter flooding. The following year they did not come back to Wellard Wetlands to my knowledge, and I haven’t seen them there since. Time of capture 11:12.
