CommentImage specific BOZ_6914~15.02.21BiL: A pair of Rainbow Bee-eaters were busy catching ants in the grass parkland at Lake Gwelup, Western Australia. To get this image I sat on my knees with my camera rig mounted on a heavy tripod and a gimbal head. I located their ‘best’ ant nest and pre-focused on this, switched to manual focus and waited for a bird to arrive at that exact spot. After some test shots for exposure determination, whenever a bird flew down, I did an exposure using a cable release. I shot about 90 images over 31 minutes, and not many were in focus after all. This capture was just inside the top right hand corner of the frame, and I have cloned it from there to make a full size frame. The long tail ‘streamers’ indicate the bird depicted here is a male. I worked the image heavily in Photoshop to get it to a presentable stage. Time of exposure: 09:52
