CommentThis juvenile Fairy Tern has just had a small fish passed over from a parent bird, which immediately flew off again and left the youngster to figure out for itself how to handle the morsel. It took quite a while for the novice to get the fish turned in order to enable it to swallow it head first. IUCN (2018) lists this tern as 'Vulnerable', whereas authorities of Australia have it listed as 'Secure' in Western Australia. Time of capture 06:16
