CommentAfter much flurrying of wings between these two Pied Cormorants viewed from a hide at Coolart Wetlands, I was startled to see one put its head right into the mouth of the other. What was happening was how parent Cormorants seem to feed their youngsters: via regurgitation. Perhaps, just at that moment, a small swallowed fish was in the process of swimming back out of the Cormorant mouth, thinking it was escaping at last but then finding itself slithering down the throat of a ravenous juvenile. Out of one gullet and into another. The juvenile may be recognised from its pinkish gular pouch, clearly on view as it swallows the putative fish, and also by its dark brown plumage, tail feathers contrasting with the black tail of its parent.
