CommentIt is not only our Rainbow Lorikeets who are dressed for the Christmas season. Here is a Red-Browed Finch, one of a small flock feeding amongst grasses and sedges along the Moonee Ponds Creek at Woodlands Historic Reserve. They were in the company of some Superb Fairy-Wrens, both species favoring similar habitats. In between attaching themselves to sedges, swaying as they fed on the seed, they would occasionally flit to a log or branch, to survey the scene. The grey undertail coverts suggest this is a female. Christmas in the Australian bush may not be snowy and white but with our Red-Rumped Parrots, Rainbow Lorikeets, and Red-Browed Finches, flashing their reds and greens in skies and trees and grasslands across the country, there is much to celebrate indeed.
