CommentA very quizzical look from a New Holland Honeyeater conveys something of this diminutive bird’s liveliness and personality. It was seen darting two and fro over the waters of the Royal Park Wetlands, catching insects but no doubt also enjoying Spring nectar on many of the surrounding trees and shrubs. Here it is perched in a casuarina and evidently wondering what I am doing, although I am actually quite far away with my 500mm lens. The photo highlights not only the very distinctive yellow wing panel that makes a New Holland instantly recognisable in flight but also its necklace of spiky white tipped throat feathers. A neat little bird dressed in one of Australia’s favourite sporting colours, and seemingly always to be seen racing from one point to the next.
