CommentHaving recently discovered a feisty group of tiny Brown Thornbills at my local park, it was even more delightful to find their Yellow-Rumped cousin on my first expedition to a park further afield now that Melbournians are free to go as far as 25 km from their home, in this case o Woodlands Historic Park next to Melbourne Airport. It was the first time I had seen the Yellow-Rumps. This one, subspecies leighi, alighted on a branch for quite some time, engaging in much preening and taking its bearings. The dappled sunlight highlights its distinctive bold white spots on its forehead, and the yellow rump can just be seen in its tail. Its yellow gape and slightly coloured fringe to its iris suggest that it is a juvenile
